My Top Running Shoe – The New Balance 880V4

My Top Running Shoe – The New Balance 880V4

– I’ve reviewed a few running shoes now, the colourful Asics Zaraca, the fast and agile New Balance 1500 but my go to shoe and one I think deserves a mention on here is my ‘workhorse’ running shoe, the New Balance 880 V4. As trainers go, there isn’t a whole lot fancy about compared to a lot that are on the market.  It’s not the lightest, it’s not the fanciest or brightest but for everything it’s not the 880 is the runners perfect training shoe.

It’s mid-weight and cushioned, you can run for hours in them and they’ll support you and let the miles drift by. You can use the 880’s day in, day out for months because they are well made, well designed and its grip is perfect for the coming winter months. It is, like I said, the workhorse of running shoes – it just gets on with the job without any fuss and more importantly without causing any complaints.

The New Balance 880, is built on the ACTEVA LITE midsole with Stability Web to provide a lightweight, supportive and well-cushioned ride.

  • 12 mm drop: due to variances created during the development and manufacturing processes, all references to 12 mm drop are approximate
  • Blown rubber outsole
  • Breathable air mesh
  • Ortholite® Premium insole provides additional cushioning for arch support and durable comfort.

The 880 is perfect for a runner with a neutral gait, and weighs in at only 310 grams. The upper material of the shoe is fairly breathable and consists of a light mesh outer and a thin, smooth inner lining.

The 880v4 also features a blown rubber out sole. Blown rubber is a soft type of rubber made by mixing in air with the rubber allowing  a more cushioned ride.

If you’re looking for a reliable trainer with a softer cushioned ride, you will be pleased with the 880v4s.

The 880v4 is a good example of a no-frills approach to a quality running shoe, even better news is that some great offers are on these now as the newly released New Balance 880 v5 have been launched. I haven’t tried the 880v5’s yet but they look to be just as good as the v4 version.

The 880v5 are available from New Balance priced £100. The v4 version, reviewed here, can be found still at most good running shoe retailers.
