Sci-Mx Recover Isolate

Sci-Mx Recover Isolate Review

– This week I’m reviewing the supplement Sci-Mx Recover Isolate. I haven’t reviewed a recovery supplement on MyGym before even though I do use them after training so thought it was probably about time that I mentioned one.

Sci-Mx’s Recover Isolate comes in just the one variety, orange – so if you don’t like orange then you’re a little bit stuffed. That said, I really enjoyed the taste but more on that in a moment.

Recover is a 2:1 ratio isolate, that’s carbohydrate to protein ratio, which is optimal for recovery whilst maintaining muscle development. Just to clarify though, this wouldn’t necessarily be used as your main protein shake even though it does contain 24g of protein. This is more of supplement drink to help you recover after an intense training session and to help prevent DOMS & fatigue.

That 24g of protein per serving I mentioned is fast absorbing whey protein isolate which ensures the protein gets to your muscles fast when it’s needed most – straight after a workout. 2.5g of that 24g are BCAAs which occur naturally in protein and are key after a workout to help prevent muscle breakdown and support protein production.

SCI-MX Recover Isolate - My Gym Review

The 48g of carbs per serving help provide fast release energy, helping to avoid muscle fatigue and providing energy for muscle growth right after your workout. As an added bonus Sci-Mx Recover Isolate contains Magnesium, 19% of your RDA to be exact. Magnesium helps contribute to energy production and can help with the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin C, Calcium and Phosphorus are also included for good measure.

Taste & Mixability

The colour of Recover is bright orange and it kind of reminds me of those childhood drinks like Sunny-D or Kia-Ora. It looks like it’s been nuked but don’t let that put you off. Taste wise, it tastes like Kia-Ora too. Well it tastes of orange squash and if you’re mixing it with ice cold water it’s really rather refreshing and thirst quenching.

Mixing it isn’t an issue, mix two scoops (80g serving) and shake for 10-15 seconds, let it settle a little as it does go quite throthy and then drink. No lumps or residue at the base of your shaker and the consistency is a lot thinner than the standard protein shakes – think more Lucozade but without the fizz.

So does it work?

I can definitely tell when I have been using this, the next day or two I’m certainly suffering a lot less from aches & soreness / DOMS. My recovery time between sessions has been vastly improved and as a result of that I have been able to increase the number of training sessions in a week that I can do. So, yes, it does work very well.

Verdict

This is great tasting stuff and it works. At roughly £1.85 per serving it’s comparable with the rest of the market with the likes of myprotein’s Recovery and Multipower’s BCCA slighty below Sci-Mx’s Recover Isolate price point and Maxinutrition’s Cyclone well above it. The nutritional profile is excellent, with a decent amount of protein, good carb to protein ratio and some added ingredients such as Magnesium and Vitamin C. Highly recommended
