Clif Builders Protein Bar Review
Clif Builders Protein Bar Review.
– For me, protein bars have always been a bit of a necessary evil. They taste as good as they look on the packaging or as the description would make them sound. At best they might just taste of chocolate and at their worst a dry chewy lock-jaw inducing chemical tasting mess. The only thing going for them as a whole is the convenience factor, a snack-able hit of decent protein without having to cook and meal prep or without having to have yet another protein shake.
So I was a little apprehensive at reviewing Clif Builder’s Protein Bar supplied by the lovely gang at ProBikeKit. As you might know, I don’t like giving bad reviews so I will rather decline any product or service that I don’t feel is up to scratch rather than writing a completely negative article about it.
Luckily that’s not an issue here. Admittedly I hadn’t heard of the brand Clif before this review. They are American based nutrition company that started life as an idea on a 175 mile bike ride. You can read the full story here about Clif (if you so wish). Suffice to say though they are a decent and respected brand.
So, on to the Builder’s protein bar which is aimed at those who workout and is perfect for anyone needing to maintain a high protein diet. It’s an ideal meal replacement if you’re on the road or it can be a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack, especially if you’re trying to build lean muscle and need to aim for 1.5 or more grams of protein per pound of body weight. Each bar packs 20g of the stuff.
Now while I’m a runner and not a bodybuilder, a high-protein meal is essential for recovery from a workout. Even if you’re not working out that day they are still a handy & quick way to intake 280 calorie snack which is high in protein.
I reviewed the Chocolate Mint flavour of the Clif Builders Protein Bar. The bar is covered in chocolate and has two separate layers, the top layer has a soft nougat type consistency with the bottom layer made from rice crisp texture and provides a really nice crunch, it’s a little crispy and a little chewy which makes it quite satisfying to eat. These two layers also stop it from being to dense and giving you jaw ache from heavy chewing.
Flavour wise the mint is quite intense but not so over-powering that it ruins the flavour of the bar and completely masks the chocolate taste. Both of which taste natural, not artificial and not to sweet either.

The chocolate mint is strong tasting but not over-powering and nutrition wise it hits the spot as a snack or small replacement.
It’s the only protein bar that I would, and have since reviewing the first sample, purchased. So it’s definitely worth a recommendation.
